The new "Südspidol" with 600 beds consists of three triangular buildings and will be an innovative and state-of-the-art hospital in the south of Luxembourg. By merging three hospital sites, the operating costs will be reduced, creating the possibility for future investments for the hospital operators. The project has a net floor area of 56,000 m2 and will be constructed 2018-2022. The concept conveys the idea of a campus and combines the benefits of a divided structure in a human scale with the requirements of medical procedures for an increase of efficiency and the minimization of all ways. With the background of the orientation of patients, the architecture enables the demands of a maximum of daylight, perfect orientation, view into the environment, connection to the nature and creates areas that give the feeling of assurance and silence. That areas support contacts, make communication easier and provide options for retread and privacy. The aim of the design is a highly efficient, process-driven hospital, in which it is all about the patients and its needs. The buildings are connected but each has its own system and works independent. The result is a structural separation connected in a common underground supply and disposal level. The design with its memorable shape makes use of the chance to provide this concept a visible expression and stands for a futuristic signal in the international architecture of hopitals.
